SHILLONG, March 24: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2022 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha as a Private Members’ Bill.

Replying to a query raised by VPP legislator from Mawryngkneng Heavingstone Kharpran in the Assembly, Sangma however said, “The Bill was not introduced by the Government of India.”

He informed that in the list of pending Bills, the UCC Bill is number 100.

“Therefore, it was introduced in the Rajya Sabha but there has been no passage of the Bill,” the chief minister said.
