UDP releases manifesto for upcoming Meghalaya Assembly polls, focuses majorly on healthcare, agriculture & corruption-free governance

Shillong, Feb 17: Gearing up for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly elections on February 27, the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Friday released its election manifesto for the upcoming polls at its Party office in Shillong.

The manifesto stresses on employment, agriculture, health, economic growth, clean and corruption-free government, effective, fair and impartial government. The UDP also promises to provide equitable and affordable healthcare by developing and upgrading infrastructure and improving efficiency of medical personnel across the state.

In the education sector, it promises to facilitate the constitution of an Education Commission to streamline the sector with an objective to bring about quality education, security of services for teachers, uniformity of the different categories of educational institutions, ensure maximum enrolment, arresting the rate of drop-outs and working towards changes in line with the NEP.

For Agriculture sector, it promises financial incentives for those practicing agriculture & allied activities – horticulture, animal husbandry, pisciculture, apiculture, floriculture, food processing, etc.

The manifesto also emphasises on the law and order of the State, assuring to strengthen the police department and fill up the vacancies.

The UDP also aims at promoting sustainable eco/cultural tourism & upgradation of home stays, local food/ handloom & handicraft/ souvenir shops, by way of incentives and subsidies.

As for the youth of the State, the UDP promises to set-up youth training & skilling institutes, and upgradation of infrastructure and other amenities.
