Vehicle driver assaulted over suspicion as cattle thief in Digboi Assam

Guwahati, June 12: A driver of a pickup truck was brutally assaulted by a group of people in Assam’s Digboi area over suspicion that he was involved in cattle theft.

According to reports, the agitated group vandalised the vehicle transporting cattle, which was travelling from Digboi towards Tinsukia.

The driver claimed that those who assaulted him and his assistance were members of the village guard force.

According to sources, for a long-time cattle thefts’ cases were reported in Digboi area but despite several complaints the police failed to arrest the thieves.

“In the last one year, many cattles in our village were lifted by thieves. We have lodged several complaints in the police station but till date none of the thieves were arrested,” said a villager.

The locals suspected that the vehicle was involved in cattle theft and physically assaulted the driver and his assistant.

Digboi police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
