Shillong, Sept 16: A shocking video has gone viral from the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Ranikor Branch in South West Khasi Hills District, in which utter chaos can be seen as people desperately struggle and fight to enter the bank.

The video footage showcases massive crowd queuing up for hours at the bank’s gate, resulting in a public anger. In the footage, people can be seen bumping onto each other and even trying to push the gate of the bank, creating a dangerous stampede-like situation at the entrance, where even the gatekeeper was struggling to maintain order.

Following the circulation of this viral video, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) stepped in to intervene with the matter and their findings pointed to a severe shortage of bank employees, inadequate banking equipment, and persistent disruptions in electricity and internet services. These issues have severely impacted the bank’s ability to serve the needs of nearly 150 villages in the Ranikor area.

During their visit, the KSU met with the Branch Manager, who, due to the overwhelming workload, found himself assisting bank employees instead of occupying his own office. This dire situation prompted the KSU to call upon the local MLA, Pius Marwein, to urgently address the crisis and advocate for the establishment of additional banking institutions in the area.
