Shillong, Mar 4: Suspended Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday categorically expressed that she along with four other legislators of the party are ready to sever all ties with the party and are not going to play by the rules of the party if it is not to their interest. She infact challenged the party saying the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is free to do what they want as per the constitution of the party but the five suspended legislators of the party are now ‘beyond the control of the party’.
“Follow the Constitution of your party and figure out procedures and processes, you do what you like… we are beyond your control,” she told reporters while hitting back at the party and making her intentions clear.
In addition, she said the ball is now in the court of the Congress on whether to expel the five MLAs.
“Every party is guided by its own constitution so please we are as literate and aware of that same constitution which we were members of for so long of our lives. Do not underestimate our understanding and capacity to think. And if one person is doing whatever he wants to do in one party that also is not our problem,” she added.
“We have decided the five of us to go to a better place in the interest of the party but if they saw otherwise then we were in a place where we could not accept what they saw, we were in a place where we are five MLAs in an Assembly. This is not Parliament and there is no NDA tag here,” the East Shillong MLA further asserted.
Referring to the BJP’s reaction to their joining the MDA saying that they were not consulted, Lyngdoh rather lauded the Conrad Sangma led MDA government. She said, “(it) means this government, if given an authority and has the correct number to take forward, can take better decisions in the future.”
