SHILLONG, JULY 13: Throwing cold water into the Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Sangma’s claims that Meghalaya has lost precious land to Assam in the border agreement, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that the agreement has benefitted the state with 99 percent of disputed villages being included.
“I am happy to tell you that 99% of those villages in the disputed areas have come to Meghalaya. While the previous government sat on the reports and maps after submitting to Assam, our government worked hard on them and ensured 99 percent of the disputed villages came into Meghalaya. The opposition leader (Mukul) should stop playing politics on this issue because the people living in the disputed areas have suffered for a long time and sought a permanent solution,” said the chief minister.
Concerning the talks on the second phase , the chief minister informed that it is due to the flood situation hence it has come to a standstill. He added that they want to ensure they are able to provide relief to the people and bring back life to normalcy to affected areas and Assam is still badly affected. Sangma assured that once it improves then will take the discussion forward.
