Shillong, Mar 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the government will ensure that the peace talks with the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) move in a positive direction.
When asked about the meeting held with the interlocutor on Wednesday, Sangma said, “Yes, we had a meeting and we will see how it moves forward in a positive direction.”
Stating that it is a process, the chief minister said it will not be possible for the government to update the press every time a meeting takes place because there is a lot of discussion taking place internally.
“(However), what is important to know is that the process is on and we are ensuring that we move forward and whatever support and push from our side, we are giving,” he added.
Earlier, the HNLC had welcomed the decision of the government to appoint retired IAS officer Peter S Dkhar as the interlocutor. It had also proposed the need to form a Hynniewtrep Peace Committee which will involve church leaders and NGOs in the peace process.
