Shillong, Mar 31: The state government has sought time to study and act on the findings of the Independent Inquiry Committee into the alleged irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).

The probe panel headed by retired Justice RN Mishra on Tuesday submitted its report to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in New Delhi on March 29.

When asked, Sangma said that the government will need a few days to go through the entire report.

“It is quite a thick report so give us some time to go through the report and we should be able to come back to you in a few days’ time,” he said.

The chief minister also lauded the panel for its hard work and within a very short time managed to submit the report.

“As Deputy CM in-charge power has given the commitment that within March a report will be submitted and it has been submitted,” he said.

The committee was constituted on July 29, last year. The report was submitted before the deadline fixed on March 31.

The Committee was to inquire into, record findings and make recommendations concerning the procurement, AT&C losses human resources management aspects of functioning of MeECL, and its three subsidiary companies viz., Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd (MePGCL), Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (MePTCL) and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL).

On the other inquiry committees, the chief minister said they have been asked to submit their reports at the earliest.
