SHILLONG, JUNE 24: NPP MDC from Rambrai-Jyrngam Bajop Pyngrope on Thursday said he would resign as member of the KHADC if those who are throwing allegations can prove that the state government had sold off tribal lands to Assam.

“If they (people making the allegation) have the proof that there has been a transaction of Rs 20,000 crore (as alleged), I will resign as MDC and this is my humble submission to them,” Pyngrope told reporters.

He also advised all the Himas to be careful of such elements who are alleging that the state government had sold off tribal lands without substantial evidence and without proof.

Pyngrope said people should refrain from making false allegations because both Meghalaya and Assam governments are working towards resolving the long pending boundary dispute between the two states.

“We want peace in the border areas and it is high time (as the issue has been lying pending for the past) 50 years,” he said while asserting that the people should support the government in its endeavor to bring an end to this dispute.

The MDC further asked people who are in the habit of making allegations to visit the border areas and know the ground reality and understand the sentiments of the people residing there instead of busy commenting on the issue from the state capital.
