Shillong, April 25:Meghalaya government on Monday again held a meeting with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) on the issue of relocation of the Harijan Colony (Sweeper’s Colony) from Them Iew Mawlong.
Dy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, after the meeting, informed that the HPC has agreed to relocation but with certain conditions. Towards this, he said the HPC has submitted a proposal, which was discussed on Monday.
He also informed that the Government will go back to its drawing board and prepare a detailed blueprint on the process of relocation.
“Ultimately what we decided today from the government side, we will prepare a blueprint – detailed proposal from the government side… Once that is done, we will communicate officially to them (HPC). Once that is done, they will sit down again with the residents over there (Harijan Colony at Them Iew Mawlong) and take a final decision,” he informed.
The next meeting between the two sides is expected around May 10 or 15, 2022.
“Hopefully we will be able to prepare all the detailed proposal to be submitted to them and once that is done then meeting will be held again very soon,” Tynsong said.
Meanwhile, HPC leader Gurjit Singh said they have agreed to relocate from Ïew Mawlong to European Ward with few conditions on the table.
Among the conditions is that the government should provide an area of 10 acres; all 342 residents have be provided with a house built by the government which is not less than 200 square metres.
“We have met the government officials today and have put forward our proposal and from the government side they will futher discuss on the coming week,” Singh said.
