Tura, Sept 28: Meghalaya Police on Friday morning arrested ten Bangladeshi nationals in South West Garo Hills, who had entered India illegally and were in possession of forged Aadhar cards.
They were detained and arrested by South West Garo Hills police at Zikzak under Mahendraganj Police Station.
The operation was launched based on specific intelligence provided by the Border Security Force (BSF). Acting swiftly on the tip-off, Police apprehended the individuals while they were traveling in an auto-rickshaw from the direction of Purakhasia.
Earlier, based on intelligence from 50th Battalion of the BSF, combined troops of 100 Battalion of BSF and Purakhasia Police Outpost had set up a mobile check post on SH-12, the road between Dalu and Ampati. However, they later learnt through the source that the Bangladeshi nationals had already crossed the area.
Immediately, the information was relayed to the ZikZak Police Station, where they were able to apprehend the Bangladeshi nationals.
The Bangladeshi nationals were produced in court following their arrest. A case has also been registered against them under the Foreigners Act. They are currently in police custody as police is investigating their motive to illegal enter India and the use of forged documents.
