Agartala, Dec 8: Tripura Police have detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals, all from the Hindu community, after they illegally entered India, allegedly fleeing unrest and threats in their village in Bangladesh, an official said.
The group, which included two women, three teenagers, and an elderly person, was intercepted at Ambassa railway station in Tripura while attempting to board a Silchar-bound train to Assam.
During initial interrogation, the detainees claimed they had fled their homes in Dhanpur village, located in Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj district, after facing continuous threats and intimidation.
According to sources, the group illegally crossed into Tripura, which shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh, and intended to reach Silchar in Assam to seek shelter in a rented house.
Authorities are investigating the matter, and further action will be taken as per legal protocols, officials said.
