Resubelpara, Dec 9: A fatal blow has been dealt on the Congress after 10 out of its entire lot of 11 MDCs in the GHADC marched into the Trinamool Congress in a special public meeting and rally organized on Thursday by new Trinamool leader and former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma at Resubelpara town in North Garo Hills district town of Resubelpara.
Congress MDCs Cherak W Momin (Kharkutta), Sonjoy Koch (Betasing), Stevie M Marak (Boldamgre), Agassi R Marak (Balachanda), Lahitson M Sangma (Samandagre), Nehru D Sangma (Amongpara), Zenith Sangma’s wife Sadhiarani M Sangma (Dengnakpara), Alphonsus R Marak (Williamnagar), Rinaldo K Sangma (Rongrong) and Ferdinand Shira (Damas) officially joined Trinamool at the Resubelpara rally.
Missing from the merger was Shyamnagar MDC Habibuz Zaman who is out of station for medical care of his child. He has also given his official signature to joining the Trinamool.
Dr Mukul Sangma, the senior most Congress leader who walked away to join the All India Trinamool Congress with Charles Pyngrope and 10 others, did not spare his former party for recent reverses in elections which he blamed on party leaders who put up dummy candidates to orchestrate the defeat of the party nominees.
He also alleged that Congress leaders deliberately put up weaker candidates even though ground feedback was in favor of other aspirants.
“This was visible during the 2018 elections when we were supposed to return with a winning verdict. Candidates who were assured of a win were overlooked during ticket allocation. This was a deliberate plan,” claimed Dr Mukul Sangma equating the Congress as ‘Mir Jafar’ – the historical betrayer during the Mughal period.
He also ridiculed the regional parties who tend to run with the hare and hunt with the hound. He accused the regional parties of saying one thing against the BJP and doing another by working with the very party they attack.
According to Dr Sangma the only party that can fight the BJP and win is the Trinamool. “The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee has proven its strength by defeating the BJP in West Bengal, this year,” said Dr Sangma as he justified the reasons for him and 11 other MLAs of the Congress joining the Trinamool.
