100 Drums Wangala Festival condoles demise of Leander K Marak

Tura, Oct 6: Purno K.Sangma, Vice-Chairman of Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the passing away of the Veteran cultural and traditional icon  Pa. Leannder K. Marak.

In a statement, Purno K.Sangma on behalf of the Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee expressed condolences.

In the statement, the Committee remembered Late Pa. Leannder K. Marak was a prominent patriotic Garo leader who, in his various capacities had stupendously contributed to the A•chik society in particular and to the government in general during his long innings of socio-cultural activities. During his tenure as the Block Development Officer, (BDO) at Rongram Development Block, he made the immense contributions both to the government and towards the society with his utmost sincerity and responsibility for which he had earned a good reputation throughout his life.

“He was also the longest serving Chairman of the Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee, which is head quartered at Asanang and served in that post for 16 long years in a row by contributing a lot towards the preservation and promotion of A•chik culture and tradition. As an undisputed leader and in the capacity of the Chairman for more than a decade and a half, he had successfully conducted series of 100 Drums Wangala Festivals every year at Asanang without any break thereby winning the hearts of millions.,” the statement said.

It further said, “We, the members of the Hundred Drums Wangala Festival Committee deeply condole the demise of our late leader Pa. L. K. Marak who had left for heavenly abode on the 5th. Oct, 2023 leaving his beloved family members, relatives and colleagues in society.”

“May the Almighty God our Heavenly Father bestow solace upon each and every bereaved family members. The indelible footprints of his charisma and steadfast fatherly love towards mankind, it’s tradition, culture and society which he had left in the sands of time shall always be cherished by one and all.”

” May his soul rest in peace,” it added.
