Meghalaya adds 100-bedded Step Down Hospital for Covid treatment

Shillong, May 31: In order to further improve the health infrastructure to tend to the covid cases as well as reduce the stress on the hospitals in Shillong city, a 100 bedded Step Down Hospital was inaugurated by State Health Minister, A.L. Hek at Umsawli, New Shillong Township here on Monday.

Of the 100 beds, presently only 50 beds will be available to patients; the remaining 50 beds will be made operational within a week.

Hek informed that the first 50 beds will cater to 25 male patients and 25 female patients. He added that they will immediately start admitting patients.

Retired Director of Health Services (DHS) and in-charge of corona care centres, Dr. Hunsi Bareh said the remaining 50 beds will be made operational once the central oxygen line is installed.

She informed that patients who are recovering from Shillong Civil Hospital will be shifted here for further management. According to her, they will also admit Category C patients and they have also kept two ventilators as reserved if there is any deterioration in the health of any of the patients.
