Shillong, Sept 16: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday informed the Assembly that a total of 116 Bangladeshi illegal migrants have been detected during the period from 2018 till August 31, this year.
He said 36 were detected during 2018, 18 in 2019, 37 in 2020 and 25 up to August 31, this year. 44 Bangladeshi immigrants are currently in jail and 72 have been deported.

He also informed that a total of 16,400 inter-state migrants without proper documents were detected during the same period.
Of these, 5460 were detected in 2018, 7626 in 2019, 2122 in 2020 and 1192 up to September 1, 2021.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Winnerson D. Sangma about the infiltration of posts, Rymbui informed that there are three districts that have the Superintendent of Police (Infiltration). He informed that the total number of infiltration posts in the state is 30.
The 30 posts District wise are: East Jaintia Hills – 3, West Jaintia Hills – 2, Ri-Bhoi – 4, East Khasi Hills – 3, West Khasi Hills – 2, South West Khasi Hills- 1, East Garo Hills – 2, West Garo Hills – 1, North Garo Hills – 3, South West Garo Hills – 1, and South Garo Hills- 8.
