Shillong, June 1: One child died, while another one was critically injured after an empty truck bearing number ML 09 A 2142 ran over them on Wednesday at Rongkhugre village.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 06.00 PM when there was RTA at Rongkhugre village.

In the incident one child identified as (L) Bindu M Sangma (12 yrs) son of Ginda M Marak, a resident of Rongkhugre Village, Shallang died on the spot while the another victim Simchira G Marak (16 yrs), daughter of Naran N Sangma, resident of Rongkhugre village, Shallang was left critically injured.

Simchira G Marak who was critically injured was soon referred to Goalpara for further treatment.

While, the driver of the truck Jarman Ch Sangma (35yrs), son of Sujan Marak, resident of Wathre village , West Khasi Hills was caught by the public and he was assaulted following which he too suffered grievous injuries. He was also referred to Goalpara for further treatment and was taken by the relatives. The Inquest over the dead body has been conducted and since the relatives insisted on PM exemption, a PM exemption order is awaited from the SDO Mawshynrut, following which the dead body ll be handed over to the relatives. The truck has been brought to the PS for safe custody. legal actions are taken
