1,300 villages in Arunachal Pradesh still remain unconnected by road

Must read

Guwahati, Jan 22: In a landmark moment for the people of Pipsorang in Arunachal Pradesh, road connectivity has finally been established after 78 long years of isolation.

The historic achievement was marked by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who, along with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, and the state’s Urban Development Minister Balo Raja, travelled to Pipsorang by road from Tali in Kra-Dadi district. The journey symbolisesd the realization of a promise made by Khandu two years earlier.

The newly constructed 55-kilometer Tali to Pipsorang road, executed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) by the Rural Works Department (RWD), is a lifeline for the region. Although still a ‘kutcha’ road, its impact on the lives of the local population is immense, providing long-awaited connectivity and access to essential services.

“Even if the road is kutcha, the ease of connectivity it has brought to the people of Pipsorang and nearby villages is huge,” Khandu remarked, noting that about 30% of the project remains incomplete. He assured the public that the remaining work would be completed within a month.

During the visit, Khandu observed the need for gradient modifications and alignment changes to ensure smoother travel. He directed K C Dhimole, Technical Advisor to the state government, to reassess and redesign the road’s alignment, urging swift action. Khandu emphasized the importance of on-ground monitoring, instructing the Executive Engineer to oversee progress and mandating Junior Engineers and Assistant Engineers to stay at the site until the project’s completion.

On February 27, 2022, Chief Minister Khandu made history by becoming the first CM to reach Tali, the last unconnected administrative centre in Arunachal Pradesh, by road. During that visit, he joined the Nyokum festivities, achieving a dual milestone. At that time, he set his sights on connecting Tali to Pipsorang by road, promising that the dream would become a reality within a few years. Today, that promise has been fulfilled.

“The next goal is to travel by road from Tali to Pipsorang in the next couple of years,” Khandu announced in 2022. Standing true to his word, the Chief Minister, accompanied by key officials and dignitaries, embarked on the historic journey to Pipsorang, which has recently been upgraded to a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) headquarters.

In addition to the Tali-Pipsorang road, Khandu announced new road projects and infrastructure initiatives for the region, including roads to connect Tali-Pipsorang with Haa village, Nyobia to Keba, and Ripum to Raha village, upgradation of the road from Roing to Lodo Kore village and sanction of Rs 44.50 crore for infrastructure development at Pipsorang SDO office and other administrative circles.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to connectivity, Khandu revealed that 1,300 villages across the state remain unconnected by road. He pledged to address this challenge within the next few years, ensuring no village is left behind.

Reflecting on his last visit to Tali in 2022, Khandu noted significant improvements in road conditions, particularly the stretch from the Joram-Koloriang Trans-Arunachal Highway to the Yangtze. He expressed optimism about further progress and envisioned travelling seamlessly from Itanagar to Pipsorang by road shortly.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Boa Sango to Neomi road and a Circuit House at Tali. Foundation stones were laid for several key projects, including roads under the Vibrant Village Programme and the CRIF scheme, signalling a new era of development for the region.

Khandu urged local MLA Jikke Tako to stay in his constituency and closely monitor ongoing and upcoming projects. “If the local MLA is at the station, officials and contractors will remain in the station, ensuring smooth progress of the projects,” he said.
