Aizawl, May 26: In its persistent operations against smuggling activities in Mizoram, the Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles (AR) on Tuesday seized 136 kg Gun Powder in the general area Longpuighat of Vaseikai Village in the State. An individual was also apprehended in connection with the explosive cache.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles with police personnel from Vaseikai Police Station based on specific information.

The paramilitary force has handed over the apprehended Individual along with the recovery to Vaseikai Police Station by for further legal proceedings.

Largely a peaceful state bordering the nation of Myanmar and Bangladesh, smuggling of illegal goods is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram. Assam Rifles has been constantly keeping vigil and carrying out operations in the state to deter smuggling activities in the Hill State.
