14th National Voters Day celebrated at Tura

Tura, January 25: Together with the rest of the country eligible voters at Tura took the voter’s pledge today at an elaborate function organized by Deputy Commissioner (Election) commemorating the 14th National Voters Day at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura. The theme for this year’s National Voters Day is “Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure”, which is a continuation of last year’s theme.

Addressing the gathering, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani highlighted the significance of each vote in a democratic society adding that the day serves as a reminder about the essence of democracy, outlining the vital role played by voters in shaping the nation’s destiny. Further, mentioning that voting holds a crucial role in a democratic society he said that the right to vote is not a mere constitutional provision, but the responsibility of powers for the collective future which also helps to educate and inform the public about their power and responsibility in a democracy. Moreover, he encouraged everyone including the young and newly enrolled voters to actively participate in the ensuing Parliamentary Elections to be held this year while also mentioning that the main objectives of this day is to educate voters, create awareness and engage in outreach activities.

Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), West Garo Hills, Leena Daring informed that 25th January is celebrated throughout the country as National Voters Day since 2011 being the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and also to encourage the voters for effective participation in electoral process.

The Voters pledge was initiated by the Chief Guest during the function. Earlier, the Message for National Voters day by the Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar was also screened during the function. The Chief Guest along with other distinguished dignitaries felicitated the Best Booth Level Officers and also distributed the EPIC to the newly enrolled voters of 18-19 years under West Garo Hills District on the occasion with Certificates and Mementos.

The names of the Best Booth Level Awardees were Shameen Ahmed, BLO 46-Phulbari (GEN) L AC, Ashadur Rehman, 47- Rajabala (GEN) LAC, Georgeman M Sangma, BLO 48-Selsella (ST) LAC, Ponison M Sangma, BLO 50-North Tura (ST) LAC, Willy M Marak, BLO 51-South Tura (ST) LAC, Leckistar Ch Marak, BLO 52-Rangsakona (ST) LAC, Jennison D Sangma, BLO 56-Gambegre (ST) LAC and Johnywalker Sangma, BLO 57-Dalu (ST) LAC.

EVM Nodal Officer, Tura R K Hajong, were among others who spoke during the occasion while DIG Western Range, Dr. M G R Kumar, Commandant 2nd MLP Battalion, Dr. D Aswaghosh, ASP, P Momin, Additional Deputy Commissioners’ and Extra Assistant Commissioners’ of West Garo Hills, Heads of Departments, Senior Citizens, Booth Level Officers, Persons with Disabilities, newly registered voters were present during the function.
