To control this outbreak, West Garo Hills Deputy commissioner Ram Singh held a high level meeting with heads of localities, and special health officials who deal with vector borne diseases, to which dengue belongs, at Tura DC office on Friday.

Another major problem in Tura is the presence of pig rearing by some people in localities which allows the dengue and even Japanese encephalitis mosquitoes to survive and breed. The Tura municipal board has been directed to deal with this problem which is prevalent in many localities.

This is the first time that dengue cases have risen in such a high number in recent years.
The latest data from the deputy commissioner’s office reveal that 42 dengue cases have been found in the last couple of days in Tura.

The highest number of cases (5 infections each) were detected in Hawakhana and Tura Civil Hospital area itself.

Even outside areas like Darengre detected 3 cases and Mukdangra village, over 10 kms from the town, also witnessed a dengue case.

“Anyone having high fever and other symptoms like body ache and pain should immediately come to Tura civil hospital where there is the Eliza test for dengue available for testing so that appropriate medical care and treatment can be given,” urged Ram Singh.

During the meeting against Dengue, that had the presence of Ram Singh, along with the District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer and the representatives of the localities in Tura at DRDA Conference Hall on Friday, he directed them to closely monitor the situation and to take preventive measures in both the urban and rural areas before the spread of dengue in the district. He also informed that the Testing Centre for dengue is functional at Tura Civil Hospital.

Stressing on the need to make the people understand the situation and to take precautionary measures, the Deputy Commissioner also urged the representatives of the localities to support and cooperate with the concerned authorities in mosquito breeding source reduction by proper solid and liquid wastes removal, proper storage of water, etc.

He also asked the representatives to hold meetings in their respective localities to sensitize the people in tackling the viral disease.
