Shillong, Oct 1: Former MLAs of Garo Hills Brigady N Marak and Billy Kid A Sangma on Friday joined the Indian National Congress along with their supporters in the presence of President of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and Shillong MP, Vincent H Pala.
Since taking over the reins of Congress in Meghalaya, Pala has been busy reaching out to and recruiting former members of the party who have either quit active politics or are independents.
One of the biggest names to come out of retirement was former Home Minister Robert G. Lyngdoh, a very vocal leader who is known to be firm about his decisions and brother of senior Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh.
With the Congress at national level dwindling due to lack of clarity on the leadership and infighting, Pala has asserted that he wants to be a team player and is building a team with hopes of turn the tides in the 2023 Assembly elections.
While his journey so far has been smooth sailing, there is some friction between him and senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, with the latter consistently skipping party meetings where Pala is present. However, the source of the friction is yet to be put out in the open.
