Jowai, Nov 21: The 1st Saba Knock-Out Football Tournament 2021 organized by the Dorbar Chnong of Saba and the West Jaiñtia Hills police kick started on Saturday at Saba Football Ground, Laskeiñ C&RD Block, West Jaiñtia Hills.
This tournament is organized with the aim of generating funds for the Saba LP School and to promote cordial relationship with the Police and the people of Assam. Altogether, 32 teams are participating teams in the tournament.
A small function was organized before the tournament began where the Border Magistrate of West Jaiñtia Hills, Dr. Brightstar Langbang was the Chief Guest, while N. Tyngkan – a prominent citizen from the Block, was the Guest of Honour.
The Function was also attended by B.R. Marak, OC Jowai Police Station, E. Pohchen, OC Raliang PS, J. K. Majaw IC Saba Border Camp, A. Suchiang the Waheh Chnong of Saba, S. Tarang Village Headman of Umkhyrmi, West Karbi Anglong District.
Dr. Brightstar Langbang while addressing the function lauded the initiative of the Dorbar Chnong of Saba for organizing such an event in collaboration with the District Police to aid the Saba LP School which is in a deteriorating condition.
N. Tyngkan while addressing the gathering said, “It is a privilege for me to part of this program, and I congratulate the Dorbar Chnong of Saba for organizing such events, where it is known that the people of Meghalaya are building rapport with the Assam counterpart and Saba Dorbar is an example for others to follow especially being in the border areas”.
BR Marak stressed on the importance of making friends with the Assam Police and stated that ‘we should not be divided by the notion of belonging to Meghalaya or Assam but instead united as Northeast people’.
E. Pohchen stressed on the unity and togetherness of villagers and that of the Assam for the success of the program and for the upliftment of the society.
A friendly match was also organized as part of the opening ceremony of the tournament between Saba, West Jaiñtia Hills and Umkhyrmi Village of West Karbi Anglong District.
