Shillong, Apr 4: Two of three accused persons in a 2014 murder case in West Jaintia Hills District were convicted and sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a lower court, which also ordered compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim’s next of kin.
After a decade-long pursuit of justice, the Court of the District and Sessions Judge in its order passed on April 3, 2024 has convicted and sentenced Salbinal Nangbah and Belting Tyngkra of Mynkrem Village to rigorous imprisonment for life and fine of Rs 5000 each for an offence of culpable homicide amounting to murder U/S 302 IPC for the brutal murder of (L) Prodic Nangbah of Mynkrem village in May 2014.
However, during the process of trial, Chalbinal Nangbah, who is also one of the accused persons, passed away on 6.04.2017.
The court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 300,000 to the family of the deceased victim.
