Shillong, June 16: In a tragic incident, 4 members of a family, all minors, were killed due to landslide in Laitrarem village under the Mawphlang Block, East Khasi Hills District on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 10 AM.

The incident was confirmed by the Village Secretary of Laitlarem John W Kharmyndai.

The three who died have been identified as Wanlambiang Kharmyndai (9), Ibanlumlang Kharmyndai (6) and Ribhalin Kharmyndai (4).

The fourth minor died on the way to Sohiong PHC. She has been identified as Daphi banri kharmyndai (8 yrs).

“Three members of a family of nine were killed in a landslide. The landslide, which was a result of heavy rains, hit the house the family was living in. Three members of the family got buried alive,” said the Village Secretary.

He also informed that the father sustained minor injuries while trying to save his family members, but wasn’t able to save the three minors.

The Secretary informed that officials from district administration and the police rushed to the disaster spot.
