30 arrested over pro-Pakistan social media posts on Pahalgam attack: Assam CM

Must read

Guwahati, April 29: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that police have arrested 30 individuals for posting controversial pro-Pakistan content on social media following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

“We have arrested 30 persons for supporting Pakistan on social media posts. Those with deeper involvement and a prior history will be booked under the National Security Act (NSA),” Sarma told reporters.

Reiterating his firm stance, the Chief Minister added, “There are no similarities between Bharat and Pakistan. The two countries are enemy nations, and we must remain like that.”

The remarks came in the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack at Baisaran, a tourist destination in Pahalgam, south Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, most of them tourists.

Separately, Sarma also criticized the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, calling it “one of the greatest strategic blunders in India’s history.” In a post on X, he said, “Despite India’s natural upper riparian advantage, Nehru, under immense pressure from the then American administration and the World Bank, handed away over 80% of the Indus basin waters to Pakistan – gifting full control over the mighty Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab rivers, while restricting India to the smaller eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej).”
