Tura, July 30: A 30-year-old man from Garo Hills lost his life while a pedestrian sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Chondonpara on State Highway 6 on Monday. The deceased was riding a motorbike when a dumper truck hit him, crushing him to death on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as one Bilsrang R. Marak, aged 30, son of Dalbison R. Momin from Chondonpara village, Garodoba.
According to information received from police, initial inquiries revealed that Marak was riding his motorcycle from Chondonpara towards Garodoba when he attempted to overtake an unknown tempo on a curve. At that moment, a dumper truck approached from the opposite direction, leading to a head-on collision that killed Marak instantly.
After the collision, the motorcycle fell and struck a pedestrian, Rohita Hajong, aged 34, from Boiragipara, Garobadha. Hajong sustained injuries and was taken to Belbari Primary Health Centre for treatment.
As soon as information was received about the accident, Monabari police officers and staff rushed to the scene only to find a male deceased with severe head injuries lying by the roadside alongside a motorcycle bearing registration number ML-14/7809.
Police have conducted the necessary formalities at the scene and are making efforts to identify and locate the unknown dumper truck involved in the accident. They are also coordinating with Assam police to aid in the investigation.
