3rd PA Sangma Memorial Cricket Tourney | ABZO XI, D M Super 9, Square Feet, & Selsella enter semis

Tura, May 5: As the tournament nears its finale, Day 13 of the 3rd P. A. Sangma Memorial Day & Night Cricket Tournament featured exciting quarterfinal matches on Sunday at the Police Parade ground in Tura.

Having started with 99 participating teams this year, only 4 remain in the semi-final stage to ultimately vie for the trophy in the finale, scheduled for Monday.

In addition to the LED screens set up for live viewing and instant replay, a third umpire and review system were also introduced. Musical performances by MGMP artists on the side made the match experience even more exciting and entertaining.

In the first match, ABZO XI batted first and managed to score 85 runs before being bowled out in 9.4 overs. However, Thunderbirds could only muster 74 runs in the 10 overs, losing 7 wickets. ABZO XI won the match by 11 runs, and Shakir Chiku was awarded player of the match.

In the second match, D M Super 9 won against SP XI A by 2 wickets. Batting first, SP XI A set a target of 92 runs (scoring 91), losing 7 wickets in the 10 overs. D M Super 9 played tremendous cricket, scoring 97 in 9.5 overs with a loss of 7 wickets, with Mani Bhusan Thakur hitting a match-winning six in the end. Bhaskar Das was awarded player of the match.

The third match saw Square Feet pitted against RS XI. Square Feet batted first but managed to score just 54 runs before being bowled out in 8.1 overs. But RS XI too had hard luck as they lost all their wickets in just 6.2 overs, scoring just 20 runs. Square Feet won the match by 34 runs, and Arup Baishya was awarded player of the match for scalping 5 wickets in 3 overs.

The final match of the day featured Selsella Jarambong Sports Association against Shallang Super Cops. Selsella batted tremendously and set a target of 132 runs (scoring 131) with a loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 10 overs. Shallang, however, fell short as they were bowled out in 9.1 overs, scoring just 55 runs. Selsella Jarambong Sports Association won by 76 runs, and Bishal Barman was awarded player of the match, as he scored 58 runs off 25 balls.

Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting day of competition as ABZO XI, D M Super 9, Square Feet, and Selsella Jarambong Sports Association battle it out in the semi-finals scheduled for 10 am, culminating in the grand finale at 6 pm on Monday.
