GUWAHATI, Sept 14: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has issued show-cause notices to five of its senior leaders for their alleged anti-party activities during the last Lok Sabha elections.
The leaders who received the notices are: Abdur Rashid Mondol, MLA; Rekibuddin Ahmed, MLA; Bharat Chandra Narah, MLA; Mira Barthakur, president, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC); Samsuddin Barlaskar, president, Hailakandi District Congress Committee.
At the same time, the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of APCC has recommended the readmittance of Nilomoni Sen Deka, a former minister, who had appeared before the DAC with an undertaking. The recommendation for his readmittance has been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for final approval.
In addition, the DAC will be submitting a status report to the AICC soon, summarizing the findings and actions taken regarding the anti-party activities during the last Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
The DAC received a total of 56 complaints, petitions, and allegations party members who were involved in anti-party activities. These complaints were from Block Congress and District Congress units, individual applicants, and contesting candidates from the last Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The complaints came from multiple districts such as Goalpara, Kamrup (Rural), Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, South Salmara-Mancachar, Hojai, Baksa, Nagaon, Darrang-Udalguri, and Dhubri.
In addition, the DAC also conducted on-ground verifications in several districts, including South Salmara-Mancachar, Goalpara, and Kamrup (Rural), to understand the real situation and assess the allegations.
