Jowai, Nov 10: East Jaintia Hills District Police on Monday arrested five highway robbers and also rescued one victim.

According to police, information was received on November 8, 2021 that a Maruti Zen bearing registration number AS 01 N 3251 had waylaid one bolero pickup bearing registration number AS 1 HC 2790 which was on its way from Lumshnong to Khliehriat.

The robbers boarded the pickup truck and drove away eventually kidnapping the driver.

The police immediately swung into action and set up nakas along the NH-06 to intercept the said vehicle and rescue the victim. In this connection, Khliehriat PS Case No. 77(11)2021 U/s 323/395 IPC has been registered and investigation is underway.

The arrested persons have been identified as Daniel Bareh, 19, Eden Thoo, Glory Rymbai, Melamon Tlang, and 19-year-old Nida Tlang.
