5-Star Hotel row: Conrad says land within Meghalaya territory, never part of disputed areas

Shillong, April 28: The 5-Star Hotel at Khanapara is very much within the territory of Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Wednesday.

Reacting to the allegations made by the Congress chief and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala that the MoU was signed for somebody’s interest to ensure a 5-Star Hotel comes to Meghalaya, Sangma said the land where the hotel is being constructed was never part of the disputed areas as it was very much within Meghalaya.

“Whether talks went ahead or not, the hotel was never part of the dispute as that area was always Meghalaya. The MP has got it wrong and he has to do his work better but I want to just leave it at that,” he said.

The chief minister also added that it is unfortunate a person of his stature could have such a micro thought on the border issue and said, “It looks like he (Pala) is more concern about the five-star than we because they never cross our mind,” while adding “I don’t think there is any need to play any kind of personal attack or politics on this. This is an issue of the people.”

Stating that the government is fully committed to resolve the border issue, Sangma said there is no reason for anybody to doubt the sincerity and the intention of this government to find an amicable and best solution keeping the larger interest of the people of the state in mind.
