Guwahati, May 19: Altogether 52 inmates in Dibrugarh Central Jail tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.

Recently, arrested ulfa leader Jibon Moran who is in judicial custody also tested positive yesterday in the Dibrugarh Central Jail.

There are 530 inmates in the jail as on date. Out of which, 223 tested today. 53 found positive including one yesterday while the rest 171 tested negative.

Sources said the Covid-19 test of the remaining 306 inmates will be done soon. All the positive cases are kept in isolation.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha confirmed the development. He said they have increase the daily Covid testing in Dibrugarh for early detection of the disease.

On Tuesday, 445 Covid-19 positive cases were detected from Dibrugarh district and six people died due to Covid-19 infection.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh district administration enforcing strict Covid protocols to control the rising surge of Covid-19.
