59 legislators take oath of office in Special Assembly Session

Shillong, March 06: The newly elected legislators of the 11th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly took their oaths of office on Monday in the special session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The oath taking ceremony marks the beginning of the assembly’s first session.

A total of 59 legislators took oath on Monday.

New faces were also seen in the house. To mention a few like Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, Nongstoiñ MLA Gabriel Wahlang, Mawshynrut MLA Methodius Dkhar and others.

Two minutes of silence was also observed during the Oath Taking Session.

Also, due to technical glitch the session was behind schedule.

The National People’s Party (NPP) led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emerged as the largest party with 26 seats in the February 27 Assembly Elections. The United Democratic Party (UDP) won 11 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), HSPDP and PDF won 2 seats each, the Congress and TMC won 5 seats each, Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) won 4 seats, and 2 seats went to independents.

Meanwhile, the election for Sohiong constituency is yet to be announced.
