5th Meghalaya Games | Golf | Garo Hills take gold in Seniors, Khasi Hills take top spots in professional & amateurs

Tura, Jan 17: This is turning out to be an incredible year for golf in the Garo Hills with Tura hosting the first ever golfing competition as part of the 5th Meghalaya Games where 24 golfers from three districts of the state competed in various categories to bring home the coveted medals.

The 9-hole Durama Golf Course at the BSF camp in Danakgre was abuzz with activity as players from Shillong and Tura showed a thing or two about playing the game, displaying their potential in various categories.

Expectations were high at the golf course as viewers were treated to a glimpse of the style and perseverance required for golfing.

The battle for supremacy at the top of this elite game was clearly between Shillong and Tura.

From ladies category to super seniors, seniors, mid amateurs, amateurs and professionals it was a tight competition all through the day’s finals.

The results in the amateurs category had Jonathan Lawphniaw with gold, Sonu Kumar Rai (gold) in Professionals category, Gaurav Bajaj (gold) in Mid Amateurs, former MLA Billykid A Sangma (Gold) in seniors, Stephen Momin in Super Seniors (gold) and Ooma Tewari Tariang (gold) in the ladies category.
