Guwahati, May 30: In a tragic incident, a 6-year-old girl died after consuming prasad in Assam’s South Kamrup district during a programme.

The incident was reported from South Kamrup’s Sanpara area.

According to reports, the girl died during treatment at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

The deceased girl has been identified as Kristilina Das, student of class 1 at Kamrup National School in Mirza.

“Over 70 people had consumed prasad and out of that 40 are receiving treatment at hospital. Since Wednesday, an additional 10 individuals have been hospitalized,” said an official of health department.

He said, “Many people fell ill after consuming the prasad. After the swift response from the health department the situation remains under control. The health department are taking all possible efforts to help the people,”.

Meanwhile, a district-level medical team has been sent to the village to provide medical care to the people.

Investigation has been launched to know the exact cause of poisoning.
