Tura, Jul 3: The 6th All Garo Hills Badminton Championship organized by Tura Badminton Association concluded at District Indoor Stadium Tura on Saturday. The three day event witnessed participation from across Garo Hills.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Selsella MLA Ferlin Sangma and Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Swapnil Tembe attended the closing ceremony.

During the event, an exhibition match was played between team Chief Minister and team badminton association, wherein CM’s team won the exhibition match.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government has been working to engage the youth and has designed a policy to suit their needs. He said that an event like the Badminton Championship in Tura will augur in promotion of sporting activities.
“As Government, we have been really focusing on sports. Through Sports Policy, we have been trying to engage the youth in positive activities. We believe that the youth of the State should be given a platform so that they can be directed to positive activities,” he said, while stressing on the need to harness on the potential of the youth.
Talking about molding the future generation, he said, “I am a stronger believer in the youth. If we are able to shape and direct our youth and their energy into the right direction than we are creating the strongest constructive force that the nation requires.”
Speaking on the occasion, Selsella MLA Ferlin Sangma lauded the organization for organizing the Badminton Championship. She said that Meghalaya Govt is committed to promote sports in the State and events like Badminton Championship will only aid in a positive way to promote sporting culture.
Championship Results
In under-19 Girls Single Lizalisha Ch. Marak won the title, while runners up was Sengte Wasa D Shira. In the under-19 Girls double, the winner was Lizalisha Ch. Marak and Amora D Sangma and runners up were Hrimbie G Momin and Ankita Paul.
In Men’s Singles, the winner was Gitchiak Bregim A Sangma, while runner up was Brainygo K Marak. In Men’s doubles the winner was again Brainygo K Marak and Chirag Agarwal and runners up were Gitchiak Bregim Sangma and Mikkim J Sangma.
In 45+ veterans’ men’s double, the winner was Vikas Chongtam and Sengrang D Shira and runners up was Swapan Kumar Das and Sujeet P Marak.
Sengchot Marak was declared the most promising player of the tournament.
