Tura, Jan 13: A seventy-year-old woman whose body was recovered from a pond in Ampati town of South West Garo Hills district on Wednesday is presumed to have drowned.
The lifeless body of the woman was noticed afloat by members of the public in the pond not far from the petrol pump in Ampati at around 12:45 in the afternoon.
“We received information that a woman’s body was seen floating in the pond. Our teams with the help of Fire & emergency staff removed the body from the pond and an inquest was conducted,” said SP Rituraj Ravi.
The victim was identified by her family members as 70-year-old Maneshwari Hajong, resident of Chelapara locality of Ampati. Police say it is strongly suspected that she may have fallen into the pond and drowned. A post mortem examination was conducted and later the body was handed over to the family for the funeral.
