Tura, Nov 18: The 7th Edition of Bilgaro Car Rally, which have become a marquee adventure sporting event of the region, came to a grand conclusion on Saturday in Tura with Ronan Bazeley adjudged as the overall champion.
The tough ‘Hill Climb Rally’ featuring 20 drivers, was held on Saturday at Aguragre, whereas ‘Sprint Rally’ was held on Friday at Anogre. A slight decrease from the 27 participants at ‘Sprint Rally’ to 20 participants on Saturday was attributed to seven participants being unable to finish their rally on Friday due to diminishing daylight, posing a risk to continue the race in the dark. The decision was also due to logistical constraints, as the TMSC had permission to use the venue for only one day.
Recognition for participation in the overall event required competitors to complete both the Sprint and Hill Climb Rally tracks.
This year, the Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC) introduced a new technology called ‘LIDAR,’ a system designed to calculate precise timings for the cars from the start to finish.
The final day event was a test of the prowess of racers from both the SUV and Car categories as they had to navigate a challenging 6-kilometer one-way hill climb track. The objective for participants was to register their fastest timing.
Following the conclusion of the competitive rallies, a prize distribution ceremony was held at Aldara Cafe Rongkhon, Tura, which was graced by Mahendraganj MLA, Sanjay A. Sangma, as the chief guest.
Sanjay A Sangma expressed his delight at being part of the event, stating, “I am very happy to see rally drivers from various parts of the state and even Nagaland participating in this event.”
The Bilgaro VII Edition 2023 drew participation from a total of 27 rally racers, attracting participants not just from Tura but also from Nagaland, Khasi Hills, and Shillong.
