8 shooters from West Garo Hills vie for top spots in 9th Meghalaya State Shooting Championship 2024

Tura, June 29: The 9th Meghalaya State Shooting Championship 2024 has begun in Shillong and 8 marksmen from West Garo Hills are taking part to vie for the top spots in the championship.

The 9th Meghalaya State Shooting Championship 2024 is being held in Shillong from June 26 to 30, 2024.

The 8 shooters from West Garo Hills taking part in the State Championship 2024 are:
1. Walsall Momin ( DSP, Meghalaya Police) – 25mm Pistol and 10m air pistol
2. Rangku N Sangma – 10m rifle
3. Bongacheng Marak- 10m pistol and 50m opensight
4. Aneesh M Sangma- 10m air rifle and 50m opensight rifle
5. Tingku N Marak – 10m pistol and 50m opensight .22 Rifle
6. Agora D Shira (NCC)- 10m air rifle and 50m open sight
7. Emarian Tenganchi M Marak (NCC) – 10m air rifle and 50m open sight
8. Tengsilchi R. Marak (NCC)- 10m air rifle and 50m open sight

All the eight marksmen are part of the West Garo Hills Shooting Association (WGHSA). The association was established in the year 2018.

Speaking to Hub News, Aneesh M Sangma, the Jt. Secy, WGHSA said, “The 9th Meghalaya Shooting Championship 2024 is currently taking place with a notable turnout of participants. Organized by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya, the event features competitions in various categories for both rifle and pistol shooting disciplines. This year’s championship is witnessing participation from several institutions, including three NCC students from Don Bosco College Tura and Tura Government College.”

He further said the championship highlights the growing interest and participation in shooting sports within the region, supported by efforts from local organizations and the Meghalaya Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The events are categorized by age and skill level, ensuring opportunities for both novice and experienced shooters to compete.
