Shillong, April 15: Eighty percent of the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) beneficiaries have completed Aadhaar linkage.
Informing this on Tuesday, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We have a very good coverage in the MHIS registration. The last that I took a review with the officers, coverage is entering into 80% coverage. To me that is big but that again not everybody is linked and sometime they do fall very ill and that’s when the problem arises.”
Stating that Aadhaar seeding is compulsory for availing such scheme, the minister said, “We are requesting our citizens that those of you who are willing to benefit from the MHIS scheme of the government of Meghalaya, kindly seed your Aadhaar so that at the time when you need government intervention it is ready and available for you to use it.”

She informed that steps are being taken to increase the Aadhaar linkages and said, “Every health institute in the state will be connected to Aadhaar linkages. We are working in close quarters with all line departments, the blocks, the DC offices to ensure that citizens can immediately register themselves with the MHIS scheme of the government of Meghalaya.”
Maintaining that government cannot forcefully tell citizens to get MHIS card, Lyngdoh said, “But if you so wish, this facility is available. Beneficiaries, who have benefited from this scheme themselves will stand testimony to the kind of assistance that the government of Meghalaya is giving them. It is just for citizens to be alert, to be aware. We are already popularizing Aadhaar linkages for various other schemes and whatever awareness that is required is getting done.”

“Today, if a citizen has fallen ill, we are trying our best to provide Aadhaar linkages for our patient even as they stay in the hospital but if no one from the family has linked themselves for Aadhaar through other schemes then it becomes almost impossible for citizens to avail this beautiful scheme,” she added further.
