Shillong, Dec 18: The Khasi Authors Society – Khliehriat Unit today observed the 83rd Death Anniversary of Soso Tham in collaboration of the Khasi Department at Jaiñtia Eastern College, Khliehriat, East Jaiñtia Hills.
The KAS which was established 44 years ago is aimed at promoting the Khasi language having 7 Units across Meghalaya.
Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. WR Kharlukhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while the Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla attended the program as the Guest of Honour.
Shylla during his speech wished the KAS with its demand for the recognition of the Khasi language under the Eight Schedule of the Constitution. He recollected his school days where he read poems written by Soso Tham which were very inspirational and meaningful.
Kharlukhi stated that this day is to remember Soso Tham who represents Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills and as a poet he has inspired many through decades.
He further stated that after the resolution was passed by the State Assembly, the 3 MPs from Meghalaya have pressed upon the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo language under the Eight Schedule.
During the function a book titled “Shi Hara Ki Sur Myllung Bad ki Essay” a compilation of poems and articles written by the students of Jaiñtia Eastern College and Edited by Dr. Davidson Diengdoh was also released.
