Tura, Nov 17: The 8th edition of the Bilgaro Car Rally, a premier adventure sporting event in the region, concluded with a thrilling finish on Saturday in Tura, where Larry Mukhim emerged as the overall champion.
Organized by the Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC) in memory of the late Noverfield R. Marak, this year’s rally saw the participation of 13 drivers: five from Shillong, one from Williamnagar, and five from Tura.
The rally tested drivers with two challenging events. On Friday, the ‘Sprint Rally’ took place on a 2.5 km stretch at Bibragre, while the demanding 6 km one-way ‘Hill Climb Rally’ was held at Aguragre on Saturday. To be recognized in the overall competition, drivers had to complete both rally tracks.
This year, the rally was divided into three subcategories—SUV, Car, and Rookie. Competitors pushed their limits to clock the best times, vying for the top prize of ₹1 lakh.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at Solace Resort in Selbalgre, with Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A. Sangma serving as the chief guest and Rakesh Sangma, MDC, as the guest of honor.
The Bilgaro Car Rally continues to provide a platform for local racers to showcase their skills, attracting participants from across the state and beyond. With TMSC set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025, the next edition of the event will be called Bilgaro X. It is expected to draw national-level racers, promising a grand spectacle for racing enthusiasts.
The overall category winner, Mukhim shared his excitement with Hub News, saying, “We usually play autocross, but this event is a different challenge—longer distances and faster speeds. It’s quite demanding and thrilling.”
Ronan Bazeley, who won the Car category, reflected on his performance: “This year was different from last. Last year, I had a better podium position, but I’m satisfied with the results considering the conditions we faced. The difference between yesterday’s and today’s tracks was vast, but overall, I’m pleased with what we achieved.”
