Guwahati, Dec 3: India International Science Festival 2024 (IISF 2024) had transformed the IIT Guwahati into a beacon of innovation, drawing over 20,000 eager students, educators, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the country. The festival was more than just a gathering of scientific minds; it was a celebration of India’s ambition to lead the world in science and technology by 2047.

Organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and managed by the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, IISF 2024 was a kaleidoscope of vibrant technical sessions, groundbreaking collaborations, and inspiring conversations that echoed across disciplines.

The festival comes to a close today.

On the second day (Dec 2) , excitement peaked as Dr. S. From Labs to Lives: Pioneering Sustainability

One of the festival’s standout moments was the signing of three technology transfer MoUs under CSIR’s Lab to Life initiative. Each agreement underscored the fusion of science and sustainability:

Biodegradable Cutlery Technology by CSIR-NIIST found a new home with Devaki Engineering Enterprises, Bengaluru. Their Rotary Bio-Degradable Manufacturing Machine (MUSUROTO) promised a greener future for agriculture and packaging.

Road Infrastructure R&D took a leap forward with a partnership between CSIR-CRRI and Rajasthan Technical University, aiming to revolutionize India’s highways.

Lilium Bulb Processing Technology, transferred to Shansha Cut-Flower Cluster in Lahaul & Spiti, aimed to invigorate the floriculture industry, turning the rugged Himalayas into a blooming haven.

A Hub of Discovery and Learning

Throughout the festival, each corner of the campus brimmed with curiosity and creativity. The New Nalanda initiative saw students engaged in hands-on STEM challenges, fostering a spirit of problem-solving, especially among participants from the Northeast and border districts.

Meanwhile, in the Science through Games & Adventure sessions, teachers transformed into students, discovering how aerodynamics and AI kits could revolutionize classrooms. One teacher remarked, “It’s like seeing science through a new lens—fun, engaging, and deeply impactful.”

A Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047

The Ideas for Viksit Bharat S&T Hackathon captured the spirit of innovation, with 100 ideas battling for the top prize.

As the festival drew to a close, the Science Odyssey of North East India program highlighted the unique challenges and triumphs of the region, weaving together traditional knowledge with cutting-edge science.

Bridging Science and Society

At the Science, Technology, Communication, and Media Conclave, dignitaries emphasized the importance of storytelling in science. The release of Employment News and Science India Magazine was a symbolic reminder that effective communication could bridge the gap between complex research and public understanding.
