Boko, Jan 7: Farmers in the Hahim Council Constituency, nestled along the Assam-Meghalaya border, are finally seeing the fruits of long-awaited development efforts. The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC), through its dedicated development fund, distributed water pumps to ease agricultural challenges faced by these border villagers.
The Hahim constituency, home to 13 revenue villages and around 9,000 voters, has long battled neglect due to its remote location. But since 2013, the RHAC has been steadily working to bridge the gap, ensuring comprehensive development for the region.
A Step Forward for Agriculture
In a distribution program held at Haldipara village, RHAC Executive Member Sonaram Rabha handed over 12 water pump machines to farmers. The pumps are expected to revolutionize cultivation in the area, enabling consistent water supply and easing irrigation woes.
“For us, these water pumps mean more than just machines,” shared one farmer. “They bring relief and promise for better harvests, something we’ve struggled with for years.”
Beyond Agriculture
The program was not limited to agriculture. A range of items—including reclining beds for the Hahim State Dispensary, bookshelves, steel almirahs, and chair-table sets for local clubs and organizations—were also distributed. In total, 29 essential items funded by the RHAC’s 2023-24 fiscal grants were handed out.
Development Beyond Boundaries
The bordering areas of Assam and Meghalaya have historically been deprived of robust infrastructure and resources. However, initiatives like these are a testament to the RHAC’s commitment to uplifting remote communities. “Our mission is to ensure holistic development,” said Sonaram Rabha. “We’re focusing on every aspect of progress, from agriculture to health and community resources.”
