Agartala, Dec 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday highlighted the transformation of Tripura, attributing the newfound peace and development to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a gathering in the Dhalai district, Shah emphasized the resolution of the 23-year-old Reang tribal crisis as a landmark achievement, signalling a brighter future for the state.
The minister’s visit included interactions with Reang tribal settlement camps and the virtual inauguration of 13 development projects valued at ₹668.39 crore. Among these are Sewage Treatment Plants under the Agartala Smart City scheme, a Central Detective Training Institute, road upgrades, and various health and administrative centres. Together, these projects aim to enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and quality of life for the people of Tripura.
Shah took the opportunity to criticize the previous Left Front government, accusing it of neglecting the Reang tribals and other communities. In contrast, he highlighted the BJP-led government’s commitment to inclusive development, citing the settlement of nearly 40,000 Reang tribals across 12 locations in Tripura at a cost of ₹900 crore.
“For years, these families lived without stability. Now, they have homes, water, electricity, healthcare, education, and roads. Children can finally dream of a better future,” Shah said, describing the initiative as a “new lease of life” for the displaced community.
The Reang tribals, displaced from Mizoram in 1997 due to ethnic unrest, endured decades of hardship before finding permanent homes in Tripura’s North Tripura, Dhalai, Gomati, and South Tripura districts. Shah’s announcement marks the culmination of efforts to rehabilitate this vulnerable community and integrate them into the state’s development journey.
The Union Home Minister’s visit underscores the government’s focus on Tripura as a model of peace and progress, ensuring that every corner of the state feels the ripple effects of development.
