Guwahati, April 29: In a significant tribute to the legacy of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will rename a stretch of Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in south Delhi as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg.
A statue of Bodofa will also be unveiled at the Kailash Colony roundabout during the ceremony on May 1, 2025, to be led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Bodofa Upendranath Brahma is revered as the father of the Bodo people — a visionary leader and social reformer who dedicated his life to the rights, identity, and upliftment of the Bodo community.

The renaming ceremony will be attended by prominent leaders, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Bodoland Welfare Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, and ABSU President Dipen Boro.
The renamed road is an 835-metre, 50-feet wide stretch near Kailash Colony Metro Station, passing beside the Bodoland Guest House.
To mark the occasion, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) will light five lakh earthen lamps and candles across households and public spaces in the Bodoland Territorial Region and Assam on May 1.
