Ampati, November 28: The District Aqua Fest has solidified its role as a beacon of progress, bringing South West Garo Hills one step closer to becoming a leader in sustainable fisheries.
The 2nd District Aqua Fest 2024 ended on a high note with a heartfelt awards ceremony, honouring pioneers in the fisheries sector.
Nobin Arengh from Betasing C&RD Block was named Best Progressive Farmer, while Rupam Koch, also from Betasing, received recognition as Best Value-Added Fishery Entrepreneur.
These accolades symbolized the festival’s core mission: fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth in South West Garo Hills’ fisheries industry.
Held at the Office of the Superintendent of Fisheries, Ampati, the festival brought together over 50 fish farmers, alongside officials, banking representatives, and dignitaries. The event was a platform for exchanging ideas, addressing financial challenges, and empowering local farmers through knowledge and resources.
A key highlight was the awareness campaign on the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme and National Fisheries Development Portal (NFDP) registration. By introducing these initiatives, the fest aimed to bridge the gap between farmers and financial institutions, making loans and government resources more accessible.
R Z D Shira, ADC and Project Director of DRDA, emphasized the importance of these partnerships. His keynote speech stressed responsible loan repayment and the need for sustainable practices, setting a collaborative tone for the future. Shri J.H. Suchiang, Joint Director of Fisheries, echoed this sentiment, advocating for unity among stakeholders to ensure long-term sectoral growth.
