Guwahati, May 22: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has demanded a Fast Track Court trial for the Dudhnoi rape and murder case and urged the Assam Chief Minister to expedite justice for the victims.
On May 21, members of the organisations submitted a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Director General of Police G. P. Singh demanding stern action against the culprits.
In the memorandum, ABSU wrote, “The Dudhnol case of gang rape in the night of May 3 2024 after the return from Bwisagu Function at Balapara village and after that on May 5 2024 the villagers and VDP along with Hiranmoy Khakhlari were attacked brutally with lethal in Tangabari village at the house of Dhan Ali Talukdar where entire family members Dhan’s elder brother Shekbar Ali, sister Permina Begum jointly attacked them, in this attack many of them have sustained serious injuries, subsequently, the intent to murder has come to light after Hiranmoy Khakhlari brother of victim girls have sustained the brutality and passed away at GNRC Guwahati on May 16 2024.”
In the memorandum, the Bodo Student Organisation has laid three key demands before the authorities.
i. For the highest punishment amounting to death by hanging till death under the penal laws of India to the accused rapist Dhan Ali Talukdar, Bahar Ali & Rahman Ali and their accomplish to murder of Hiranmoy Khakhlari by Shekbar Ali and Permina Begum.
ii. For the trial of this gang rape and murder case in Fast Track Court.
iii. Grant interim compensation of Rs. 20Lakh, to the kin of Hiranmoy Khakhlari and 5lakh each to Rape victims.
Speaking to the media, ABSU President Dipen Boro said, “We demand the highest punishment amounting to death by hanging for the accused rapists and their accomplices involved in the murder of Hiranmoy Khakhlari”.
Many organisations led by ABSU have announced that they will organise a massive protest rally on May 27 in Dudhnoi against the incident and demand justice for the victims.
Notably, the Dudhnoi police have arrested all three prime accused in the rape and murder case.
