Tura, July 17: Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on Monday, after meeting A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) hunger strike protestors outside the Secretariat, they said that they wanted to know what kind of conversation they wanted to have with the Government and the Administration.
Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani said that the protestors want Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s personal intervention in this matter.
They want assurance from the CM, Chelani added.
They have emphasised that Winter Capital was promised to them way back when the state was established and that they would like the CM to take up this matter in the upcoming assembly elections along with other MLAs of the region and discuss the matter at least when he arrives in Tura.
He also said that they want reservations on the roster system, and they are also hoping that the government understands or accesses the option, at least in a committee matter or any other matter.
The protestors also said that they want CM Conrad to take up the matter in the upcoming assembly.
“Only yesterday, several people had gathered at the protest site,” said DC.
DC also said that CM Conrad is also taking stock of the situation.
The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) hunger strike protestors are protesting outside the Secretariat in Tura.
The ACHIK’s hunger strike was initiated by a group of activists demanding immediate retrospective implementation of the roster system and making Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya.
