Shillong, Jan 20: The state government has deployed an additional one platoon of police personnel at Mawkynrew village following the violent protest over land allotted for the construction of the Ramakrishna Mission school.
“We have deployed another one platoon of police personnel at the construction site to ensure law and order is maintained,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said.
At least six people including four woman police were injured during a clash that broke out between police and villagers, who are protesting against the alleged decision of the dorbar shnong to allot a land for the construction of the school.
“Four of our woman police sustained minor injuries and two members of the public were also injured during the incident,” he said.
He however informed that situation is being brought under control. The incident has prompted the district administration of East Khasi Hills to immediately impose a curfew to ensure law and order does not deteriorated in the village.
In her order, the deputy commissioner RM Kurbah said, “…in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under section 163 BNSS do hereby promulgate curfew in the above site at Mawkynrew village with immediate effect till further orders.

Mawkynrew village under Madanrting police station, East Khasi Hills distrct.”
She said the order was issued following information received that there is serious deterioration of law & order in areas under Mawkynrew village with reports of vandalism causing destruction to property and person at Ramakrishna Mission School, Mawkynrew.
“These activities are likely to continue with every likelihood of causing serious breach of peace and tranquility and may lead to loss of life and property,” the DC stated.
